local art of huatulco

A resilient artisan residing in a historic village outside Oaxaca City, Mexico, where the art of pottery is not just a tradition but a way of life. In the wake of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, Maria faced the loss of her husband, the family’s master potter. Undeterred by tragedy, she stepped courageously into her husband’s shoes, embracing the craft passed down through generations. With unwavering determination, Maria now leads the family business, crafting pottery in the time-honored manner of her ancestors.
Her hands, weathered by years of dedication, skillfully mold clay into exquisite forms, each piece is Unglazed pottery, kiln fired barro rojo, with smoke added for aesthetics.

The pieces telling a story of heritage and love. Maria’s artistry not only preserves the rich cultural legacy of her village but also brings solace and hope to her community. Through her pottery, she not only honors her husband’s legacy but also strengthens the bonds that tie her village together. Maria stands as a beacon of strength, showcasing the power of tradition and the human spirit in overcoming adversity.
